Actually, the number of buyers who may be interested in this type of asset is much wider. Airport is the main transport hub which connects Moscow, capital of Russia, to the world. The only cornerstone for this deal is the price current owner are asking to pay for their stake. $4-5 billion is the valuation number named by banks who managed IPO attempt of the airport in May this year. The problem is that IPO has failed and now airport owners are trying to sell for the same amount but to a single investor.
One of the potential bidders for 25% stake in Domodedovo was ex-representative of the President — Igor Yusufov. He was ready to pay $1 billion for this stake in may, while airport owners were in the process of IPO preparation. Some sources claim that in purchase of Domodedovo Airport were also interested some other Russian investors, like Basic Element, Nafta Moskva and Sberbank, which has recently launched an airport investment unit.
Currently Domodedovo Airport belongs to a Cyprus-registered company DME Ltd. Sources familiar with market situation name Dmitriy Kamenshik as the sole beneficiary of the asset, although some sources say that Valeriy Kogan is partnering him in this business.
