The best little secret dining spot in Moscow has just come out of the closet.

Tibet Restaurant, formerly Tibet Kitchen, in Kamergesky pereulok has had a change of owner, followed by a logo change, menu change and decor change all guided by top restaurant consultant, Doug Steele. Three things are unchanged from a decade ago: Shola the Tibetan restaurant director, the detailed hand made Tibetan costume dolls in wall niches and the value for money pricing. Most expensive dish on the extensive menu is sweet and sour prawns with veggies and pineapple for 730 r.



A weekend lunch here with three starters, two mains and a rice and noodle dish for two of us (like Chinese food, you share the dishes in Tibet) cost just 1,600r including mineral water and cola. Great value, great food and at the end we concluded a great deal.

The new menu contains many spicier dishes, indicated by a chili pepper insignia. Widespread new favourite is shoka khatsa, spicy potatoes (160r) while a personal favourite is chicken Amdo, cubes of chicken with dried red chili, black mushrooms and bamboo (220r).

Business Lunch (220r) typically consists of Spring Rolls, soup with corn and mushrooms, chicken with vegetables, sweet & sour vegetables, rice and Noodles with vegetables all washed down with green tea (Fridays).

The word about Tibet is spreading fast and the restaurant is already experiencing full house from time to time. Better to book a table than face disappointment. Their Saturday curry brunch is a sellout. From 13.00 to 17.00 all you can eat and all the Stary Melnik you can drink for 1,000r.
