Spartak's technical director Evgeniy Smolencev reportedly met with Celtic officials in Glasgow last week. Spartak have been wooing McGeady for six months.
The Russian giants are believed to have made a formal offer for the talented winger after initially making a verbal offer in excess of £8million.
However, it remains to be seen whether McGeady will accept the club's lucrative terms as he is reportedly not keen on a move to Russia.
The Celtic forward, who will be in Moscow today for talks with Spartak owner Leonid Fedun, is adamant his future lies away from Celtic Park and is becomingly increasingly tempted by a move to Russia.
McGeady believes the time is right for a move and is open to what Moscow has to offer. He flew out to the city yesterday with his agent and girlfriend, Claire.
Celtic are resigned to losing McGeady and the offer from Spartak is the best one on the table with the transfer window open for another four weeks. Reports from Moscow last night claimed a deal has been agreed between the clubs, with only McGeady’s personal terms to be arranged.
Valery Karpin, the Spartak coach, is desperate for reinforcements as he is now under severe pressure after CSKA Moscow came from behind on Sunday to win the derby. His future may rest on a successful Champions League campaign.
McGeady was encouraged to come to Moscow by Luke Wilkshire, the Australian who plays for Dinamo Moscow.
"It’s a big decision and I am sure Aiden will be apprehensive but he would be making a good move. I’ve witnessed first hand how good he can be. Spartak won’t mess about. They are in the Champions League and have money to spend."
Prrhaps an evening in Moscow's Silvers Irish bar with proprietor Steve Conway will help persuade him.
