Russian spectacular to take over Trafalgar Square for London’s Maslenitsa Festival, on 26th February
A family focused bustling bazaar of all things Russian, featuring music, food, crafts and a colourful children’s marquee will fill Trafalgar Square in the culmination of London’s Maslenitsa Festival, celebrating the arrival of Spring. The London event, supported by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, is the largest celebration of Russian culture, art, music and food anywhere outside Russia.
In Mansion House, the 250-year old Georgian town palace that serves as home, office and entertainment venue for the Lord Mayor of the City of London, a distinguished group of City bankers and brokers yesterday (Wednesday 14th December) took advantage of a rare opportunity to quiz Alexander Voloshin, the 55-year old former Kremlin strongman now charged with creating an international financial centre (IFC) on the nitty gritty details of the project.

Sergei Polonsky, the controversial Russian billionaire with a fortune of $4.35 billion and ranked Russia’s 40th richest person by Forbes magazine in 2008, is negotiating with British property developer Irvine Sellar to buy the 52 storey tower One Blackfriars. Located near the Tate Modern gallery in London, the tower has 64 luxury apartments and a 261 bedroom hotel. The scheme was developed by Liverpool based developer Beetham Organisation and Mr. Polonsky’s Mirax Group.
