The Hydrometcentre of Russia has begun the trial operation of two environmental observation centres in the construction zone of the Olympic park in the Imeretinskaya Valley. The equipment at the centres constantly monitors air information in the four basic pollution substances: carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides and dioxides and sulphur dioxides. In parallel to measuring the concentration of the pollution substances in the atmosphere, the centres also track the basic meteorological indicators.
The monitoring of data is delivered in the real time to the Sochi specialist centre of hydrometeorology and monitoring of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov (www.pogodasochi.ru).
Within the area that will host the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, there is currently one station and three automatic observation controls for air pollution. There are five observation centres within the construction zone of the Olympic Venues and the town of Sochi.
