Expat: Visas, Tax & Legal

The Russian embassy has paid tribute to the Russia Visa application Centre in London on its third anniversary of operations. A statement on the Embassy web site reads “It is three years today (23 January) since the establishment of the Russian Visa Application Centre in London. We are proud to know that the London centre was the first Russian visa application centre in the world and it has proved its high efficiency throughout these years. Within three years, it has processed some 300,000 applications for Russian visas.

Visa applications for British citizens now have to be submitted on a new form that must be sent directly to the Ministry of Interior in Moscow, announced Visa facilitator Russia House in London.

The minstry of interior in Moscow will then send this form to the consulate in London.

“No reason was given for this move but we have been assured that this will not cause any delays and we can still provide a next working day or a six day- working day service as usual,” said the company’s e-mailed announcement.

Alinga Consulting Group has announced that the firm now has significant new global resources to offer its clients through its membership in IGAF Polaris, the powerful new global accounting association forming out of the merger of Polaris International, Fidunion, and IGAF Worldwide.

The independent member firms of the merged IGAF Polaris will have a combined annual revenue of over US$1.82 billion, with 2,400 partners, 16,300 employees, and 843 offices in 89 countries around the globe, making the combined group one of the largest associations of independent accounting firms in the world.  The substantial increase in size for the merged association will enhance Alinga Consulting Group’s ability to provide expertise and resources to meet growing client needs, both internationally and domestically.

New laws came into effect on March 24th that ease the lives of foreign nationals working and living in Russia, as well their employers. The law, which came after heavy lobbying by foreign businesses, reverses legislation that toughened registration rules and came into force Feb. 15.

The Russian State Duma has passed amendments that significantly alter registration procedures for foreigners in Russia. Starting March 31, registration must be completed within seven working days after entering the country. If the trip is shorter than seven working days, registration should not be required at all, if that current policy remains in force. The amendments also legislate the practice of registering employees at their place of employment. This is a significant step forward for business in Russia; one which we hope will be followed by many more.

On December 4th, 2010, the Order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation No 564 came into force. The order defines, among other things, new business trip rules for foreign citizens who are highly qualified specialists.
