German agricultural equipment manufacturer, Claas, intends to double the capacity of its Russian enterprise by 2015 and to take a quarter of the Russian combine harvesters market. Implementation of these plans will cost the company more than 100 million euros.

Claas is the world’s largest producer of agricultural machinery, with 14 factories in Europe, Asia and America. In North America, the company sells its products under the brand name LEXION Caterpillar.

The company expects that the project will increase the level of Russian input into the product to over 50% compared with 20% at present. In this case, the company can expect to participate in the state programme of concessional lending. All together this will enable the company to offer its products to customers on more favourable terms.

Potentially, Claas is ready to supply a quarter of the products required by the Russian market. Even if this is not achieved, the company will still be able to supply equipment to the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, where there is a need for better quality farm machinery to increase agricultural productivity.
