According to the classification of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), A380 AC falls within 4F category, combining the largest aircraft types. To date, the double-decked A380 Airbus is the world's largest passenger airliner.
The A380 aircraft’s dimensions impose special requirements on a landing airport, which should possess certain technical capabilities. Length of A380 superliner is 73 m, height is 24.1 m, and span clearance is 79.8 m. The aircraft accommodates 10 rows of seats, and the maximum number of seats is 853, which is about twice as much as in Boeing-747.
Check of the Sheremetyevo Airport’s suitability for accepting A380 AC and its modifications involved various aspects, such as air navigation servicing of AC, meteorological, aviation engineering and radiotechnical support of flights of this AC type, passenger transport and servicing, and also availability of the airport’s surface facilities, special transport and technical supply. To ensure engineering aviation support of A380 aircrafts’ flights, Sheremetyevo Airport has purchased tow bars for large-sized liners. Moreover, the airport staff members have received additional training in “The specifics of Ground Handling of A380 AC and its modifications” and obtained permits to ground handling of the AC. The training was conducted by specialists from Airbus S.A.S. company.
The large-scale check of the airport has confirmed its complete suitability for servicing this AC type.
Airbus 380 is the world’s largest airliner, manufactured by Airbus S.A.S. company (former Airbus Industrie). A380 is capable of conducting continuous flights up to 15,200 km. The carrying capacity is 555 passengers (853 passengers for charter configuration). ItА380 is the most economical large-sized liner: it consumes 3 liters of fuel per one passenger for 100 km. It is equipped with four engines.
