We were to be entertained by two days of political theater resulting in more exposure for oligarch turned politician Mikhail Prokhorov. Today the show however abruptly ended with Prokhorov’s resignation and a declaration of war against the grey cardinal of Putins’ second and Medvedev’s first presidencies, Vladislav Surkov.  What just happened?

The Russian oil to telecom conglomerate AKF Sistema has reported a net profit of $182.7 million under US GAAP for Q3, 2010. Q3 profits show a 27% percent growth over Q2 on higher oil sales and better demand for mobile services.

 

Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska is understood to have met Giovanni Perissinotto, the CEO of Italy’s biggest insurance company Assicurazioni Generali, to discuss new projects in Russia. It may be recollected here that the two companies are having differences over the control of Russian insurance company Ingosstrakh.

Rasperia Trading, part of Basic Element (BasEl) holding company owned by Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, plans to repurchase a 17 percent stake in Austria's real estate developer Strabag for 373.065 million euros, BasEl said on Monday.

 

Oil to telecomms giant Sistema can count on government support

Oil to Telecomms giant AFK Sistema, controlled by chief executive Vladimir Yevtushenkov, a brother-in-law of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, is at the forefront of Russian technology deals with Europe and India. Yevtushenkov controls 62% of Sistema, the largest public diversified financial corporation in Russia and the CIS, which manages companies serving over 100 million customers in the sectors of telecommunications, high-tech, oil and energy, radio and aerospace, banking, real estate, retail, mass-media, tourism and healthcare services.
