For the following six years after its launch, the Mascot will become an important symbol of Russia that will be used on a global stage. Mr Chernyshenko confirmed the Mascot will incorporate a wide range of features that are symbolic of Russia, while also including characteristics that will ensure it becomes popular among people of all ages and nationalities across the world.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 President and CEO said: “For the first time in Olympic history, Sochi 2014 has decided to create our Mascot through a nationwide competition. On 1 September we will launch a contest to encourage people from across the country to submit their ideas on the Sochi 2014 mascot – everyone can take part in this truly national competition. I’m sure that the final Mascot will be truly representative of modern Russia.”
A new website will be launched (talisman.sochi2014.com) by the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee. This will feature a selection of the best submissions for the Sochi 2014 Mascot. All details on how to submit the entries to the contest and the format for nationwide voting will be announced on 1 September 2010.
